The importance of connectivity, education and the articulation of social actors for the implementation of technologies that promote the future of agriculture in Colombia were some of the topics discussed during the forum "Artificial Intelligence that empowers the evolution of the field", held within the framework of the AgroExpo 2023.
Connectivity and technology for agriculture
The Minister of Information and Communications Technologies (MinTIC), Mauricio LizcanoWithout technology, he said, it was not possible to transform the Colombian countryside. In this regard, he said: "our goal is connectivity and technology to change lives, so we are with concrete proposals moving forward in connecting the countryside". He added that, "if we want Colombia to be a world power of life, we must support the agrarian reform, the popular economy and our farmers, who guarantee the production and access to food.".
Likewise, Lizcano affirmed that Colombia has the need to constitute AgroTECH to promote rural digitalization, strengthen a productive and sustainable countryside, through the use of technological tools that enable the improvement of the farmer's work.
Axes of work
The MinTIC has established eight axes to strengthen the field: connectivity, education, ecosystems, sustainability, public innovation, data, Internet and Artificial Intelligence.
In this sense, the use of Artificial Intelligence as a tool to enhance food production became relevant. The use of drones, electrical sensors, data management and crop mapping are just some of the resources that can be employed to ensure the success of crops, while reducing the impact on the environment.
It is worth mentioning that the activity was attended by the Minister of ICT, Mauricio Lizcanothe National Land Director, Gerardo Vega Medinathe director of the National Space Agency, Pilar Zamora Acevedoand the director of Agrodata, Carolina Huertas.
