Tenosique, Mexico. More than 80 cheese exhibitors offered a wide variety of handicrafts and regional products at the 9th Edition of the Artisan Cheese Festival in the city of Tenosique, in the state of Tabasco, Mexico. An interesting activity, which served to boost tourism in the region.
The event was held between July 28 and 30 at the Tenosique Convention Center. There were more than 60,000 visitors, who were able to enjoy a gastronomic experience with master cheesemakers, international chefs, traditional cooks and a variety of foods with the representative flavor of Tabasco.
Flavor, music and culture
Exhibitions, tastings and pairings of cheese and agro-industrial products; handicrafts; gastronomic conferences, contests, workshops, cultural and artistic expressions. During the cheese festival, there were children's games and the public could enjoy recreational activities such as adventure and nature tours.
In the Artisan Cheese Festival the originality of the cheeses produced in the area was celebrated. Among the contests held were: The best artisan cheese of Tabascothe best mexican artisan pore cheese and the Cooking ChallengeThe event, in which gastronomy students from seven universities participated.
The children were able to learn and practice the milking process, perform laboratory tests on the milk and learn about the coagulation process in cheese making.
Economic benefit
The 2023 edition of the aforementioned festival generated economic benefits of approximately 96 million Mexican pesos (approximately US$5.6 million), according to figures confirmed by the event's organizers. Considering that, in the 2022 edition, the economic income was 60 million pesos, the increase for the 2023 edition is significant.
In addition, the organizers emphasized that not only the exhibitors of the event benefited, but also the hotels, restaurants and businesses in the municipality of Tenosique, Tabasco and nearby cities.
This year, producers from the municipalities of Balancán, Emiliano Zapata, Jonuta, Tenosique, Huimanguillo and Macuspana participated.
