After facing a couple of difficult months, the pork industry in Paraguay is going through an excellent moment. So far in 2023, the price per kilo of live pork has been increasing.
According to figures from the Association of Pig Breeders of Paraguay (ACCP), in January the price was 1.27$ USD per live kilo; in February it rose to 1.40$ USD; at the end of March it rose to 1.50$ USD, a price it has maintained to date (May 2023).
Exports improved the outlook
The ACCP points out that the opening of exports to Taiwan was very positive for the market, since Taiwan is both a large consumer and importer of meat pork. They also emphasized that all sanitary requirements have been met, demonstrating that the quality of the pork produced in Paraguay meets international requirements.
It should be noted that the National Animal Health and Quality Service (SENACSA) in its four-monthly report on exports of animal products and by-products reported that, in the first four months of 2023, 1,335,926.68 kilograms of pork were exported, compared to 74,490.82 kilograms in the same period of time in 2022, which represents a percentage difference of 1693.41%.
The document also indicates that the main export destinations were Uruguay, Taiwan, Georgia and Ivory Coast.
