The SIAL Innovation competition, recognized for promoting food audacity, has unveiled the 10 finalists for its 2024 edition. In a sea of more than 200 applications from 17 countries, these products emerged as symbols of innovative potential and creativity in the Canadian and international market.
Rigorous selection and innovation standards
In collaboration with the teams of ProtéinesXTC in Paris, the co-chairs of the competition, Isabelle Marquis and Xavier TerletThe selection process was exhaustive. Of the numerous applications, 74 products that epitomized the innovation showcased at SIAL Canada. This group was then further reduced to 34 products, considered the most promising, which faced the scrutiny of the Canadian grand jury.
Evaluation criteria: beyond the conventional
The evaluation criteria were rigorous and multidimensional. It was not enough to simply offer something new to the market; the products had to have the potential to transcend boundaries and set trends. From the recipe and composition to the packaging and manufacturing process, every aspect was meticulously scrutinized. Innovation had to resonate in every facet of the product.
Diversity and creativity are distinguishing features of the finalists
Isabelle Marquis, senior food strategist and co-chair of the jury, expressed her satisfaction with the diversity and quality of the finalists. From Pepper Flakes from the Czech Republic to The Taste of Costa RicaThe 10 finalists represent a wide range of creative and well-crafted products that encapsulate the major trends of the moment in the food industry.
Isabelle Marquisconfirms that the following has been obtained "a record number of entries for the contest with just over 200 products". He adds that, "beyond the numbers, we also had a great international representation, which I am happy about because that is the very essence of this competition.".
As for the finalists, she confesses that "the jury did not have an easy task in choosing them.". With regard to its competing products, it indicates that "are creative and well-made, and represent the main trends of the moment.".
