In a fundamental step towards strengthening agroecological production in Uruguay, a call has been launched for civil organizations in the country to join the Honorary Commission of the National Plan for Agroecological Production in Uruguay. Promotion of Agroecologically Based Production. This initiative, established by Article 3 of Law No. 19,717 of December 21, 2018, has as its central objective to encourage practices and strategies that promote sustainable and environmentally friendly agricultural production.
Within 30 days from the date of publication in the Official Gazette, the organizations will have the opportunity to nominate their most suitable candidates to occupy these positions. From the nominations submitted, six organizations will be selected and subsequently appointed by the Executive Branch to form part of the aforementioned Commission.
Submission of applications
In order to ensure diversity and equitable representation of the different production systems based on Agroecology, certain criteria are established for organizations wishing to apply:
a) Direct linkage with production. Organizations must have a direct relationship with agroecological production, demonstrating a real commitment in this area.
b) Representation of various production systems. It is necessary that the set of applicant organizations reflect the diversity of production systems based on agroecology, ranging from urban and suburban agriculture to livestock and dairy farming with emphasis on the preeminence of livestock on natural fields.
c) Track record in promoting agroecological production. Organizations must have a recognized track record of working in the promotion and development of agroecological production practices.
d) Legal requirements. At the time of proposing their delegates and alternate delegates, the organizations must have the corresponding legal status.
Proposals, following the precise instructions, must be submitted in sealed envelopes to the offices of the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisherieslocated at 1476 Constituyente Street in Montevideo, Uruguay. These proposals will be received by the president of the Honorary Commission of the National Plan for the Promotion of Agroecologically Based Production.
