Elections 2024 and the challenges of agriculture |
As we mentioned a few days ago, Portal Agroalimentario sent an invitation to each of the candidates for the Presidency of the Republic from the 11 parties authorized by the Electoral Court of Uruguay for the next national elections.
The purpose is to give each candidate the opportunity to address a message to our national and international audience, including a diagnosis of the current situation of the national agricultural and agroindustrial sector. The occasion is also an opportunity for each candidate to present his or her proposals and measures, generated to boost and energize the country's agri-food productive activity. So far, the only presidential candidate who has lent minutes of his valuable campaign time to respond to the invitation of our media, is Dr. Gustavo Salle Lorier. We refer to the founder and leader of the Identidad Soberana party who, in addition, is a criminal lawyer and jurist of recognized trajectory in the country.
The heterodox vision of the pro-sovereignty leader
Gustavo Salle, who is the candidate for the Presidency of the Republic for Identidad Soberana, begins his message to the audience of Portal Agroalimentario by specifying the main ideological lines of his political party and presenting a "diagnosis" of the national and international reality.
As previously stated, he openly denounces what he calls the "political caste" in Uruguay. He considers it responsible for alleged acts of corruption in government management and public administration, which, in his opinion, as in other areas, has a negative impact on the country's agricultural situation.
Salle states that, "the State is attacking the interests of the rural family by seeking their extinction and the dispossession of their lands to hand them over to large corporations, through tax policy." Likewise, he assures that Uruguay and most of the governments of countries in the world yield to an enormous and "undue" pressure in political, economic and social matters coming from a series of international entities linked to an "elite mega rich".
Regarding the campaign proposals for agriculture, his political party promotes "ruralization and national industrialization", the implementation of measures for the protection of labor and the economy of rural families who need to make their production profitable. It claims to generate a radical change in the current "model"of production, which it defines as "narco-forestry".
In the final part of his speech, Gustavo Salle and his party specify the reasons why to vote for the Yes (white ballot) of the plebiscite of the pension reform. As for the plebiscite that promotes a constitutional reform to allow night raids, the candidate states the reasons for his opposition to the initiative, urging not to put the yellow Yes ballot in the ballot box.
