DIGEGRA updates fruit and vegetable regulations

The General Directorate of Farming (DIGEGRA) has issued a communiqué addressed to producers and technicians, announcing the recent update of the General Directives for Integrated Horticultural and Fruit Production. This move aims to achieve higher quality standards in food production, minimize environmental impacts and ensure the economic viability of the farming activity.

Integrated Production Standards

The review, in accordance with the Decree N°175/2022 The new resolution, due May 31, 2022, has been prepared by the Integrated Production Advisory Commission, taking into consideration the advances in the field, new knowledge and contributions of national research. It proposes improvements and updates to the resolutions governing integrated fruit and vegetable production.

Among the updated resolutions is the Resolution N°90/023 of DIGEGRA, which deals with the Wine Grape Integrated Fruit Production Standard. This includes Annex I, with the General Guidelines for Integrated Fruit Productionand Annex II, which details the Standards for Integrated Production for the Wine Grape. In addition, Resolutions N°3/024 concerning the Rules for Integrated Horticultural Production and Application for Exceptions are presented. These include Annex I, with the General Directives for Integrated Horticultural Production, and Annex II, Annex III and Annex IV, which specify the Integrated Production Standards for the following greenhouse crops: onion, bell bell pepper and tomato.

These updated regulations are the result of a consensus between technicians and producers and are presented as specific technical recommendations for each crop. The document covers all the necessary aspects for production and is available for consultation in this web page from Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries.

The DIGEGRA reaffirms its commitment to continuous improvement and the pursuit of excellence in agricultural production. In this sense, it announces the development of a new integrated production regulation for pome and stone fruit trees, based on the existing regulations for apples and pears.
