Montevideo, Uruguay. The third edition of the Expo "Uruguay Sostenible" has started with the participation of the Vice President of the Republic, Beatriz Argimón, together with the Minister of the Environment, Robert Bouvier, and the Undersecretary Gerardo Amarilla, among other national, departmental and municipal authorities. This event, organized by the Ministry of Environment (MA), has as its main objective to promote sustainable development and encourage environmental care in the country.
A space for innovation and environmental learning
The "Uruguay Sostenible" Expo, which will take place from June 6 to 9 at the Antel Arena, is presented as a unique opportunity to bring environmental issues closer to the population. With a wide range of activities including talks, workshops, exhibitions and games, the event seeks to inform and raise awareness about the actions being carried out in Uruguay in favor of sustainability. In the words of Minister Bouvier: "we brought together 200 stands, more than 100 occupied by entrepreneurs and civil organizations, with about 40 workshops and playful proposals, in addition to the participation of more than 200 experts in talks and thematic conferences."
Promotion of sustainable business
One of the initiatives highlighted in this edition is the business round, which offers the opportunity for local entrepreneurs to connect with executives of large companies, thus fostering opportunities for collaboration and business growth. Minister Bouvier emphasized: "we promote 150 bilateral meetings between large companies and Uruguayan MSMEs to generate business opportunities and sustainable development."
Recognition of environmental excellence
In addition, during the event, the National Environment Award 2024 will be presented for the fourth consecutive year, with the objective of highlighting actions that contribute to environmental sustainability and ecological awareness in society. This award recognizes the work of educational centers, local governments, civil organizations and companies that are committed to environmental protection and the promotion of good environmental practices.
Framework for the development of two relevant initiatives
As a novelty in this edition, the 8th National Meeting on Environmental Education and the 3rd Latin American Round of Environmental Education will be held. These events offer a space for the exchange of knowledge and experiences regarding the transforming role of environmental education in the construction of a more sustainable future. Undersecretary Amarilla highlighted: "the Expo is now an event for everyone, especially entrepreneurs, companies and civil organizations, committed to building a greener and more sustainable future."
According to a recent official communiqué from the Ministry of the Environment, which has reached our editorial office, the President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, will be present at the 3rd "Sustainable Uruguay" Expo. From 6:00 p.m. local time, the President will tour the exhibition, accompanied by the Minister of the Environment, Robert Bouvier.
